Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you take insurance?
We are not contracted with any insurance companies and full payment is due at the time of service. What this means is that we will not bill your insurance provider for services. However, we can provide you with a superbill summarizing the physical therapy services provided for you to submit to your insurance. Some insurance providers will reimburse you directly based on your "out-of-network physical therapy" benefits. We recommend that you contact your insurance provider directly to understand what they will cover.
  • Do I need a referral?
No, the state of Oregon has direct access for physical therapy. What this means is that you do not need to have a physical therapy referral prior to starting physical therapy. However, if you are planning to submit a superbill for reimbursement to your insurance provider you may need a physical therapy referral. We recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to determine whether you need a physical therapy referral prior to starting physical therapy.
  • Do I need to see a physician before starting physical therapy?
No, you do not need to make an appointment with a physician before starting physical therapy since Oregon has direct access for physical therapy. This means that you can start physical therapy immediately after an injury or as soon as your symptoms start. Often, the sooner you start physical therapy the quicker the results and sooner you can get back to what you love. This also means less paperwork, less time spent at doctor’s appointments, and less time waiting to start feeling better. If we feel you would benefit from seeing your primary care provider or other healthcare provider, we will let you know and can help provide referrals as needed. We take pride in working as a team with all your providers and believe this leads to optimal results.
  • What does mobile physical therapy mean?
This means that we come to you! This could be at your home or a sports field. Whether you are a busy athlete with limited time in between school, practice, and games or you are a parent trying to figure out how you are going to find time in the day to get your child to physical therapy, we understand and will work with you to determine where the best place for physical therapy may be. Benefits to this include less time spent traveling, and we are able to work with you in your environment. This means we are able to see you perform the things you need to do to get back to the things you love in your actual environment.
  • What is the benefit of a "Return to Sport Assessment"?
We believe that there should be no guessing in your decision to return to your sport or high level activities. Our assessments are designed to take the guesswork out of this decision and provide evidence-based and objective recommendations. They are longer than our standard physical therapy evaluations to ensure we are able to perform a comprehensive assessment including range of motion, strength, flexibility, balance, power, agility, and sport-specific tasks. We know that the more confident you feel in your decision to return to your sport, the better you will perform and the lower your risk of injury becomes.
  • What should I wear to my physical therapy appointments?
We recommend wearing clothing you are able to move in and are comfortable in. We are experts in movement and will want to watch you move doing tasks similar to those you wish to return to. We recommend wearing athletic shoes as well for this reason.
  • What should I expect at my physical therapy appointments?
Your first visit will be your physical therapy evaluation. At this visit you can expect to discuss with your physical therapist the reason you are coming to physical therapy, any symptoms you may be having, your past medical history, what you would like help returning to or improving, and what you would like to get out of physical therapy. You can then expect a full assessment from head to toe. This may include watching how you move while squatting or jumping, assessing how strong different muscles are, and/or determining how different areas of your body move. If you are experiencing pain or discomfort, we want to know and try to limit this as much as possible. However, your pain or discomfort tells us a lot about what is going on and we will work with you to come up with a plan to determine what is occurring and how we may be able to help. After all this, your physical therapist will discuss with you their assessment and plan to help you reach your goals for physical therapy and answer any questions you may have. You may go over some exercises with your physical therapist and receive them to do at home. This will often help you get better faster and lead to better overall results! All following visits will be physical therapy treatment sessions. At these visits, the focus will be on working with you to reach the goals you and your physical therapist set during your evaluation. You are always welcome to ask any questions you may have at any time!
  • How many physical therapy visits will I need?
This depends on your current condition, history, and goals. We are passionate about treating each patient as an individual and take pride in creating a plan specific to you. Our goal is to help you achieve your goals as quickly as possible in a safe and effective manner. Detailed recommendations and expectations will be discussed with you at your physical therapy evaluation.
